The Senate passed the Countering Extremism Bill at the 15th plenary session on Thursday. The bill is aimed at ensuring the security of an individual, society and the state, protecting the constitutional order, Uzbekistan’s territorial integrity, maintaining peace, interethnic and interreligious harmony.
The foreign experience was taken into account when preparing the bill. It provides basic concepts, principles and main axes for countering extremism, the range of bodies that carry out activities in this field, their powers, measures to counter extremism, as well as liability for carrying out extremist activities.
The law defines the procedure and mechanisms for recognizing organizations as extremist and banning them. The recognition of an organization as an extremist and its liquidation, according to the bill, shall be carried out only by the Supreme Court on the basis of an application by the Prosecutor General.
The bill was prepared in accordance with the decree of the President Mirziyoyev on implementing the SCO Convention for Countering Extremism.
At the meeting, the senators were given tablet computers to enhance the efficiency of their work.
