President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the construction site of the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent Friday, on the day of Eid al-Fitr holiday, the presidential press service reported.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev reportedly laid a symbolic cornerstone into the foundation of the future facility.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated religious figures and all compatriots on Eid al-Fitr, noting the symbolism of the launching of the construction on this auspicious day.

The Center is being created under the Cabinet of Ministers to study enlightened Islam and raise awareness of the public and the international community about the heritage of our ancestors, the President underscored.

The building of the center will be erected in the traditions of national architecture, in the form of a mosque with a dome. The complex will include a library, information and resource center, scientific departments, a conference hall and other facilities.

"As the heirs of such heritage, however we are lagging behind in science. Our initiatives are recognized by all Muslim countries, ant it is necessary to be worthy of it and be examplary in terms of learning and enlightenment," he said.

On the same day the head of the country laid flowers to the monument to the late president Islam Karimov and paid tribute to his memory.
