Yukio Takasu, the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General for Human Security, arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the upcoming events: the Central Asian International Environmental Forum: "Strengthening cooperation in the field of environmental protection and sustainable development" (June 5-8) and the conference: "Joint actions to mitigate the consequences of the Aral catastrophe: new approaches, innovative solutions, investments" (June 8).

The Environmental forum is aimed at intensifying the joint efforts of the countries of the region to solve environmental problems, and will address issues of biodiversity conservation and development of a network of protected natural areas, integrated management of solid domestic waste, introduction of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

the conference on the Aral Sea will focus on the programs to mitigate the consequences of the Aral catastrophe and the cooperation in implementing the projects aimed at improving the environmental and socio-economic situation in the region.

As part of the visit Yukio Takasu will visit the Aral sea basin to familiarize himself with the ecological situation and is expected to meet with local residents, officials of state and civil institutions.
