Evgeny Vladimirovich Birger has been appointed director general of the Uzbekiston Pochtasi (Uzbekistan Post), state-run postal service and courrier company Wednesday, replacing Shuhrat Atamuhamedov, who was moved to Uchtepa district mayor job, the company said.
Evgeny Birger, 58, graduated from the Moscow Electrotechnical Institute of Communications in 1982. In different years he was the chief of Postal Department of the Russia Communications Ministry and member of the Council for Strategic Development of Post of Russia.
Speaking at the #MITCROADMAP2018 conference in Tashkent Tuesday, Birger said that Uzbekistan Post had failed to adapt to the modern trends and needed to be reformed. He presented the so-called Post 2.0 project, which envisages "deep integration of the mail company into the activities of companies, organizations and its going into every household."
In February, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered to prepare proposals on reforming Uzbekistan Post, in particulr through attracting foreign consultants and studying international practices.
Since January 19, 2016, Shuhrat Atamuhamedov was the general director of Uzbekistan Post. On May 12, he was appointed of Uchtepa district mayor in Tashkent.
