Uzbek Defense Minister, Major-General Abdusalom Azizov today met with the visiting Russian Defense Minister, Army General Sergey Shoygu.
According to the Uzbek Defense Ministry, the counterparts discussed the ways to expand the Uzbek-Russian cooperation in the field of defense, as well as strengthening ties in the military-technical field.
Since 2000, military cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia has been based on the annually approved military cooperation plans. Over the past period, over 290 joint events took place in the territories of the two states as part of these plans.
On October 24, 2017, the fifth round of Uzbek-Russian on regional security consultations were held in Tashkent. Military attaché was posted at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow since last September. Joint Uzbek-Russian military drills were held at the Forish training ground in Jizzakh province last October.
Sergey Shoygu visited the Academy of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan in Tashkent, and later today will depart for Samarkand.
