Director of the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov may take the post of general secretary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

In the meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers in Beijing on Tuesday, the Council presented the candidacy of Vladimir Norov (Republic of Uzbekistan) for the post of Secretary General of the SCO for the period from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021" for approval by the SCO Council of Heads of State.

Vladimir Norov since May 2017 has concurrently served as deputy secretary of the Presidential Security Council.

He previously was the head diplomatic missions to the European Union and NATO, was Ambassador to Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, served as State Councilor to the President, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Foreign Affairs.
