The Uzbek Interior Ministry reported of arresting five men suspected of obtaining of US$ 500 thousand cash by blackmail from a Kagan man in Bukhara province.
On April 13 at 21:30 five men in Chevrolet Lacetti came to A. Uljaev, 65, who lives in Kagan, and, who identified themselves as the State Security Service officers. One of them produced a showed ID and said that a criminal case had been initiated against Uljaev in Tashkent, and he needed to come to the capital for investigation.
The men demanded US$ 1 million from Uljaev in exchange for stopping the prosecution and for closing the case, after getting US$500 thousand dollars, they disappeared.
The victim reported the incident to the police the next day.
In the course of the investigation, previously convicted Kagan resident B. Kosimov and Samarkand residents P. Gulyamov, S. Makhmudov, A. Mamedov and M. Yusupov (1977) were arrested as suspects.
Three of them - Makhmudov, Yusupov and Mamedov were arrested in Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia).
