Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov today met with the Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece.

The counterparts discussed the issues in the Uzbek-Latvian agenda focusing on the state and prospects of interaction between the parliaments of the two countries, the Ministry said in a statement.

It was noted that the sides traditionally have a similar approaches on such priorities as strengthening the sovereignity, preservation of national identity, building a stable democratic state with an open market economy and shared aspiration for integration into the international community.

Taking into account that Latvia is Uzbekistan's second largest trading partner in the European Union, the sides pointed to the need to promote new projects within the framework of trade, economic and investment cooperation, where the important role is played by Uzbek-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

Ambassador of Latvia Mihails Popkovs was also present at the talks.
