Uzbek Foreign Ministry today hosted a meeting with the delegation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) led by the General Director William L. Swing, the ministry said.
Uzbekistan is not a member of IOM, which works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need.
The counterparts discussed the ways and prospects for development of bilateral cooperation.
The IOM delegation was informed that the Uzbekistan is considering the full organization membership, and in this context, the sides confirmed mutual interest in strengthening and expanding the ties.
The program of the IOM delegation's visit also includes meetings in the Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan, the Government, the Ministries of Employment and Interior, and the Prosecutor General's Office.
