Uzbekistan plans to launch its own satellite into space, the innovations minister Ibrohim Abdurakhmanov said at an international press club meeting.

According to him, the launch will take place in the "near future", however he did not elaborate on who will supply the satellite.

"Uzbekistan lost all its developments in the aerospace industry for the last 25 years. Now a strategic plan is being prepared, which envisages the launch of an artificial satellite in the near future," Abdurakhmanov added.

The need to create an aerospace industry was first voiced by Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address to the Parliament last December, and the 2018 State Program includes an item which provides for the development of this area. As part of the reforms, it is planned to prepare a strategy for creation and development of aerospace industry, as well as an actions program aimed at developing material and scientific bases, training of staff and attracting foreign investments.
