A Tashkent court sentenced blogger Nilufar Hamidova, 48, to seven days of administrative detention for minor hooliganism, Tashkent city courts said in an official statement.
The Yunusabad district criminal court found Hamidova guilty under Article 183 of the Administrative Liability Code after hearing the case today, the statement said. The judge also admonished her for promoting indecent content.
The case followed a video she filmed on the streets of Tashkent and posted on social media, which drew public criticism. It is not known what the video was meant to advertise or what message she intended.
Law enforcement bodies looked into the matter and gave a legal assessment of her conduct. Hamidova apologized for her actions.
“I’m sorry. I won’t post this kind of content again,” she said.
An event involving Hamidova in April at School No. 48 in Akkurgan district, Tashkent province, had also drawn criticism. The province’s Preschool and School Education Department responded officially at the time, saying it was reviewing the conduct of those responsible and that measures would be taken in line with established procedure.
Filming videos in a short skirt is not illegal, and public disapproval alone should not make conduct an offense. Courts are expected to rule on the basis of the law, not public opinion. And legal systems must not punish for wearing a short skirt in a video, and should not treat public disapproval as grounds for punishment.
