A $350 million data center is planned in the Alat district of Bukhara province, district governor Nargiza Nematova told a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Nov. 4.
Foreign investors have bought a 90-hectare plot of pasture and non-irrigated land and are starting work.
“This is a $350 million project that will provide 300 permanent jobs in the future,” Nematova said.
She did not name the investors, the terms of the land transfer or the completion date. The data center’s capacity, power sources, cooling water needs and purpose were also not disclosed.
Nematova also said a 250 MW solar plant built by Masdar had created jobs. Of 1,500 workers on the site, 1,000 were district residents, and their incomes rose.
“At first I thought it was only about saving electricity and money. But it turned out I was wrong,” she said.
Local entrepreneurs also gained business providing transport and meals to workers from other provinces and abroad, she said.
The district is also implementing an 80 MW solar project with 40 MW of storage with Germany’s Leman to power Amu-Bukhara canal pumping stations.
In May 2024, Saudi company DataVolt presented a program for three data centers in Uzbekistan worth up to $5 billion by 2030, including one on a 25-hectare site in Bukhara province. In June 2026, Beeline Uzbekistan and DataVolt signed a memorandum to study a joint data center in Bukhara.
It is not known whether Nematova’s project is linked to DataVolt’s plans.
Also on Nov. 4, Mirziyoyev launched a $40 million Beeline Uzbekistan data center in the Kagan district of Bukhara province.
