Uzbekistan’s Prosecutor Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), Jahon said. Murotjon Azimov, First deputy prosecutor general of Uzbekistan signed the MoU on behalf of the Office as part of the US visit on December 4.
The MoU provides for “exchange of information on legislation and experience in law enforcement practices, advanced investigation methods and modern mechanisms of deepening theoretical and practical skills of conducting research in this field”.
According to the Uzbek embassy in the United States, the counterparts noted that the document will result in higher degree of partnership between the bodies and enhance the effectiveness of cooperation in combating crime and protecting human rights and freedoms.
At the talks it was stressed that the absence of such a document had for many years hampered operational cooperation of the relevant authorities of the two countries. The sides reportedly agreed to step up contacts and interaction on a number of important security issues of mutual interest.
