The population of Uzbekistan as of October 1 stood at 32.519 million people, an increase by 391,4 thousand from 31 December 2016, or by 1.2%. The urban population is 16.451 million (or 50.6% of total population), and the rural population is 16.060 million (49.4%), it said in the Statistics Committee’s Q3 report.
In nine months, 523,6 thousand children were born, which is by 8,800 more to the same period in 2016. The birth rate was 21.7 ppm.
The number of deaths in January-September amounted to 116,9 thousand people, or by 8,000 people less.
In total mortality, circulatory system diseases account for 60.5%, tumors - 9.2% , diseases of digestive system - 6.2%, accidents, poisoning and traumas - 5.6%, respiratory diseases - 4.9%, infectious and parasitic diseases 1.7%, other diseases - 11.9%.
In nine months, 6,100 children died before the age of 1 year. The infant mortality rate was at 11.2 ppm (in January-September 2016 - 10.2 ppm). High rates of infant mortality are recorded in Tashkent, Khorezm, Andijan, Djizzak, Syrdarya provinces and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
Of the total number of children who died before the age of 1 year, 57.4% died of conditions originating from perinatal period, 21.6% - respiratory diseases, 11.4% - congenital anomalies, 3.1% - infectious and parasitic diseases , 1.6% - accidents, poisonings and injuries, 0.4% - diseases of digestive system, 4.5% - other diseases.
In January-September, the civil registry office registered 192.7 thousand marriages and 23.6 thousand divorces, which is 8 marriages per 1000 people (7.4 marriages in January-September 2016) and 1 divorce (in January-September 2016 Year - 0,9 divorces).
