Governor of Tashkent province Shukrullo Boboev and governor of Djizak province Ulugbek Uzokov were fired by the President, Uzbek PM Abdulla Aripov announced at today’s government meeting, a source in the government said.
The dismissal of the governor was due to falsifying cotton harvest figures in 2017 to be harvested in these provinces.
For the same reason prosecutor of Tashkent province Jamshid Fayziev and prosecutor of Djizak province Shohmuhammadbek Muhammadjonov were dismissed.
According to the source, cotton harvest figures in Tashkent province were exaggerated by 12%. With no information available on falsified amount in Jizzakh province.
Investigation into the actions of the fired governors and prosecutors has been launched.
The Khorezm province governor and the head of the Republic of Karakalpakstan were reprimanded on the same issues.
Gulomjon Ibragimov, Deputy Prime Minister since December last year (Head of the geology, fuel and energy, chemical, petrochemical and metallurgical industry Complex), has been appointed as interim Tashkent province governor.
Former rector of the Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute and Jizzakh’s Arnasay district mayor in recent years, Ergash Soliev became the new Jizzakh province governor.
Ulugbek Uzoqov, former head of the Information and analytical department on agriculture and water management isues under the Cabinet of Ministers, was appointed governor of Jizzakh province in 2016. Shahmuhammadbek Muhammadjonov was appointed as the province’s prosecutor in September 2016.
Shukrullo Boboev was appointed governor of Tashkent province in December 2016, but since then on several occasions was criticized by the President.
