Skyrail will be built of overpass type for Tashkent ring railway instead of electrified high-speed. As reported earlier, in pursuance to the President’s Decree of May 19, 2017, a project was developed for the construction of an electrified high-speed double-track ring railway in Tashkent.

According to Uzbekistan Railways, electric trains were initially to run on the ring line. However, given the technical and process specifications of electric trains, and the fact that they are mainly designed for longer distances, a decision was made to use metro cars.

The initial version foresaw the construction of a line of left and right-hand traffic, preferably on the ground, i.е. from a total distance of 72.1 km of track, only 6 km of overpass and bridges.

As the ring line will run through densely populated areas with well-developed infrastructure, therefore, these aspects were at the forefront of this issue when reviewing the project.

On the President’s instruction, in order to avoid mass demolitions of buildings, houses, and also after research conducted with foreign experts with experience in similar projects, a new decision was taken to build a sky rail of overhead type, preserving to the maximum the urban planning, existing buildings and industrial facilities.

According to the project developed by JSC BoshTransLoyiha, the total length of the tracks will be 52.1 km. They will intersect with existing, under construction and planned underground metro lines. The construction period, taking into account the preparatory period - 4 years (2017-2021)

Provisionally, there will be a total of 35 skyrail stations. The cost of construction of the ring line is estimated at $ 422.3 million.
