Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov held talks with his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif in Tehran. The ministers discussed topical aspects of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on international and regional issues, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The sides agreed that the meeting of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Iranian President Hasan Rouhani on September 11, 2017 in Astana on the sidelines of the OIC summit gave a new impetus to the activation of the Uzbek-Iranian dialogue, the statement added.
The counterparts also reportedly discussed the prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iran within the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international bodies, and confirmed their willingness to strengthen and advance ties in all areas of mutual interest.
Following the talks, the ministers signed a Cooperation Program for 2018-2019 between the foreign ministries.
