President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Tuesday the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Chung Sye-kyun.
Warmly welcoming the guest the President stressed the important role of the parliaments of the two countries in strengthening the Uzbekistan – Korea Republic friendship and strategic partnership ties and expanding traditionally close and multifaceted cooperation.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that Korea Republic is one of Uzbekistan’s key and reliable partners. Today, cooperation is intensively expanding at various levels, both in a bilateral and multilateral formats.
Cooperation is expanding with leading South Korean companies and banks on priority projects aimed at diversifying Uzbekistan’s industry and infrastructure. At present, the portfolio of joint projects surpasses US$ 7 billion.
Bilateral relations are expanding in the scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian areas, healthcare and education, as well as in the sphere of tourism development.
The sides also noted the importance of further strengthening the partnership ties between the parliaments and their committees, enhancing the activities of the parliamentary friendship and cooperation groups, organizing regular mutual visits and joint events in Uzbekistan and Korea Republic.
The guest highly appreciated the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan within the Development Strategy and added that his country stands ready to support them.
Chung Sye-kyun conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to Shavkat Mirziyoyev on behalf of the President of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Moon Jae-in, and noted that the leadership of South Korea is looking forward to the visit President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Korea Republic.
Chung Sye-kyun assured that by joint efforts the two parliaments will contribute to the preparation of the forthcoming visit and further deepening of the bilateral strategic partnership ties.
