President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Monday the President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, UzA said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the activation of cooperation with Tatarstan and other subjects of Russian Federation follwoing the signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation between the Regions of the Two States and other accords during President Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Russia in April.

Warm relations between Uzbekistan and Tatarstan have been established through centuries-old cultural, historical and humanitarian ties between the two peoples, the head of state stressed.

The sides reportedly discussed issues of expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation and noted that there is untapped potential to increase the two-way trade  by fourfold in the coming years (in 2016 - $ 50 million, in the half-year it doubled).

The sides set out priority cooperation areas, including joint projects in the field of oil and gas chemicals, automotive industry, production of industrial equipment, medicine and pharmaceutics, agro-industrial complex and others.

Rustam Minnikhanov confirmed Tatarstan's readiness to develop all-round partnership ties with Uzbekistan. He added that 10 different accords on cooperation were signed at the Uzbekistan-Tatarstan business forum.
