President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev arrived in Tashkent on September 16 on a state visit. At Islam Karimov airport, the Kazakh leader was personally welcomed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, UzA reported.
The visit began with a visit to Mustaqillik (Independence) Square, where Nursultan Nazarbayev laid flowers to the Monument of Independence and Humanism, then visited the mausoleums of Sheikh Khovandi Tahur and Tole Biy (Kaldyrgach-Biy).
They also visited the Aksaray residence, where the first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov worked. Nursultan Nazarbayev laid flowers at the monument to Islam Karimov, and afterwards familiarized themselves with the Exhibit of National Kazakh goods fair in UzExpoCentre.
The two leaders held talsk at Kuksaroy residence, where they discussed prospects for development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in different areas and exchanged views on regional and international issues.
By the decree of the President of Uzbekistan, the head of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, was awarded the El-Yurt Hurmati (Respect of the Country) Order for “great services in deepening and expanding friendship and strategic partnership ties between our countries, and strengthening international cooperation for peace and progress". Shavkat Mirziyoyev himself presented the award to the high guest.
The decree emphasized that Nursultan Nazarbayev "stood at the roots of the formation of good-neighborly relations and mutual understanding between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It is thanks to the huge personal contribution of Nursultan Nazarbayev that a strong bridge of friendship and cooperation between fraternal Uzbek and Kazakh peoples was built, and it is on this basis that mutually beneficial and fruitful ties between our countries are developing."
