Minister of Economy and Finance Sherzod Qudbiev said that the 2024 state budget would include mechanisms to encourage water saving. "We are preparing very drastic proposals on the culture of water consumption, measurement and its delivery," said the minister.
"As soon as they are ready, you will see in the draft budget for 2024, we are thinking about mechanisms that will drastically change our attitude to water and encourage its saving," said the minister.
Earlier, the IMF’s managing director Kristalina Georgieva, who visited Uzbekistan at the beginning of June this year, paid attention to the water problem. She said that the market price of water had not been established in Uzbekistan, and this was the reform that the government should implement first.
Earlier, the Ministry of Water Management announced that by 2030, Uzbekistan will be short of 7 billion cubic meters of water.
