At the end of December last year, a video surfaced on social networks, in which a girl alone rows across a river in a boat in Syrdarya province to get to school.
A schoolgirl, living in Bekabad district of Tashkent province, rafted down the river to a school in the Gulistan district of Syrdarya. After a public outcry, her house was visited by the acting governor of Syrdarya province Akmaljon Mahmudaliyev, head of the provincial department for emergency situations, as well as the mayor of Bekabad district of Tashkent province. She was offered a laptop and books, and was given advice on how to cross the river safely.
According to the press service of Syrdarya province governor’s office, Akmaljon Mahmudaliyev then promised the schoolgirl's parents to help her get a good education. From the new academic year, the girl will be trained in rowing at the Olympic and Paralympic Sports Training Center in Gulistan city.
The center provides accommodation and four free meals a day, and in your free time - the opportunity to study programming and IT.
