Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are preparing a "big project" in the oil and gas sector, with the parties currently preparing a feasibility study. This was announced by Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku.

“We are preparing a large oil and gas project with SOCAR, now a feasibility study is being prepared, I think that the project’s feasibility study will also be slowly moving forward,” the head of state said.

Mirziyoyev also stressed that "there would soon be a serious result in the automotive industry."

“These are our new brands, our cars, production will be launched this March and September - 3,000 and 7,000. This is a completely different brand, different quality. Secondly, we agreed on a cotton cluster. Both our teams have already agreed. There are allotted lands. I think that here we will also achieve the results we have spoken about. We had a lot of problems in sericulture, but I think they are being solved very well. The heads of our sericulture enterprises reported to me that they are feeling like at home, they say: they have all the facilities for us like at home. I was informed that all issues related to mechanical engineering are also being resolved, preferences are being resolved at the parliamentary level. This already suggests that in the future we will have a lot of joint projects in these industries, too,” he said.

In February 2020, it was reported that the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan was preparing a PSA with BP and SOCAR to develop fields in the Aral Sea.

In January 2013, it became known that SOCAR and BP would start exploration at three investment blocks in Uzbekistan.
