Termez International Airport was opened after reconstruction and received the first flight on December 26, the Uzbekistan Airports reported on Monday.
Uzbekistan Airwaysэ Tashkent to Termez HY-65 flight with 146 passengers on board landed at 8:15 AM.
The reconstruction lasted 55 days (since November 1). A new category 4E airfield complex has been built, which includes a new 3000 m-long an 60 m-wide runway, taxiways and an apron for three aircraft parking lots. A modern system of lighting equipment CAT-I ICAO, a meteorological and radio navigation landing system was installed.
The new airfield complex project was estimated at 550 billion soums, or US$ 5 million. To date, work has been completed for 377 billion soums, or US$ 3.5 million. The project’s final phase, three aircraft stands and a second taxiway, will be completed by April 2023.
Reportedly, it is noteworthy that a concrete runway has been laid in Termez. This is the best solution in the hot climate of the Surkhandarya province - the concrete runway is more durable. To date, concrete strips have been built only at Navoi and Termez airports.
During the reconstruction, flights were temporarily diverted to other airports in Uzbekistan. The airport terminal was reconstructed and was commissioned in 2021.
