Presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev signed historic documents - the Treaty of Alliance and the Treaty on the Demarcation of the Uzbek-Kazakh State Border. They also oversaw the signing of bilateral documents, the Presidential press service said.

As Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted earlier, the Treaty on Alliance Ties “meets the primordial interests of both fraternal peoples and marks a new stage in the history of Uzbek-Kazakh ties. Alliance Ties are the highest and most trusting level of interstate partnership. With this step, we confirmed our readiness to actively support each other, to stand firmly shoulder to shoulder in the face of modern challenges. Thus, we confirmed that we intend to build a common future.”

“This breakthrough document opens up new horizons for us and fully reflects the mutual desire of the two countries for further rapprochement,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Speaking about the demarcation of the border, the President stressed that the agreement on it would serve the cause of peace and security in the region. “Our border has always been and remains the border of friendship and good neighborliness,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

“The agreement completes the international legal registration of the state border of Kazakhstan on its southern borders,” the President of Kazakhstan emphasized.

In addition, 15 documents were signed at the level of governments, ministries and departments, large companies of the two countries, providing for the expansion of multifaceted cooperation.

Among them:

Agreement on establishment of the Central Asia International Center for Industrial Cooperation;

Agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection;

Agreement on cooperation in the field of higher and postgraduate education;

Protocol on amending the intergovernmental Agreement on the conditions for mutual trips of citizens dated July 7, 2000;

Memorandum in the field of strategic reforms;

Memorandum on development of electronic commerce;

Memorandum development of forestry;

Memorandum on development of civil service;

Road map to expand cooperation between Tashkent and Turkestan, Navoi and Kyzylorda, Jizzakh and Turkestan provinces;

Agreements on the implementation of projects in the field of energy, chemical industry , transport and logistics.

While, $8 billion worth of trade contracts and investment agreements were also signed during the Uzbe-Kazakh Summit.
