At a meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to discussing the situation in Afghanistan, Chargé d'Affaires, Deputy Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan Nuralla Abdullayev spoke about the steps taken by the country to establish long-term peace in Afghanistan.

At the session chaired by India, the members of the UN Security Council were presented with the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to set up, under the auspices and with the support of the UN, a high-level international negotiating group to resolve the situation in Afghanistan to coordinate with the authorities of this country the gradual implementation of the requirements of the world community.

The members of the Security Council were informed about the productive experience of Uzbekistan's interaction with the current Afghan authorities.

Reportedly through dialogue with the Taliban, Uzbekistan managed to open schools for girls in the northern provinces, for the first time in the last 25 years, to launch the transit of goods to the seaports of Pakistan and back through Afghanistan. At the same time, attention was drawn to the fact that over the past 10 months, about 600,000 tons of goods were transported in both directions along this transit route, without any security incidents.

The meeting attendees were also provided with detailed information on the assistance provided by the republic in the field of training Afghan experts and students, including women, electricity supplies, successfully implemented infrastructure projects, emergency humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, as well as support for international efforts in this direction through the Multifunctional Transport and Logistics Hub in Termez. A call was made to give the hub an international status under the auspices of the UN.

“The Afghan people have never waged wars, all the wars were imported to Afghan soil from outside. Therefore, the world community must bear moral responsibility for the fate of the Afghans, the future of this country, Nurilla Abdullayev emphasized.

It was noted that the re-isolation of this country should not happen and the Afghan people should not be left alone with the increasingly worsening humanitarian and socio-economic problems in the country.
