The Israeli Embassy in Tashkent issued a statement on the attempted terrorist attack on a Fly Dubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv yesterday on Sep. 30.

“Terrorist attempted to crash Fly Dubai flight making its way from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The majority of the 174 passengers aboard the flight were Israelis, including children. The terrorist, who was one of the pilots, attacked his fellow co-pilot, tried  to cause damage to the airplane’s systems and to crash the airplane in order to kill its passengers.”

“Fortunately, thanks to the courage and resourcefulness of some of the Israeli passengers and the Emirati crew, they were able enter the cockpit, confront and overpower the pilot, and regain control of the aircraft. Their immediate actions prevented a potential catastrophe and saved the lives of all those on board.”

The Embassy underscored that contrary to some media coverage in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, this incident cannot be considered as a mare «strife» between passengers or pilots, nor as an emergency landing outside of the flights’ rout. This was meant to be a catastrophic terror attack against civilians which was prevented due to the passengers’ heroism.

“We assess there was no coincidence in the attempted attack against Israeli citizens onboard an Emirati aircraft.”

“Terror will not break the bonds between Israel and the UAE, and will not jeopardize the vision of the Abraham Accords and the peace making progress in the region. The state of Israel deeply values its relationship with the UAE and remains committed to strengthening the ties between our countries and our peoples.”

This Terror attack must be utterly condemned by all those who seek to enhance peace and normalization in the Middle East region, the statement concluded.
