On November 9, Tashkent hosted the ceremony of laying the first stone in the construction of the facilities of the Olympic village. It was attended by the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
At the beginning of his speech, the head of state congratulated everyone on this historic event and noted the importance of the projects.
- We have our own way, our aspirations and plans. We believe that the historical work that we are starting today will yield great results. This confidence gives us strength,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Large-scale work is being carried out in our country to popularize sports and support athletes. Over the past five years, almost 4 trillion soums have been allocated to this end, 118 large facilities have been put into operation and 110 have been reconstructed.
Thanks to the attention paid and the conditions created, in this year alone, our athletes have won more than a thousand medals at various international competitions. In particular, our team won first place at the Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India. At the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya (Turkey), our athletes were second in the overall medal standings, having won 158 medals.
Thanks to such results and world recognition, Uzbekistan was entrusted with holding prestigious international tournaments. In 2021, the World Weightlifting Championship was organized in Tashkent at a high level, and this year - the World Judo Championship. Next year, our country will host the World Boxing Championship and many continental tournaments.
The most high-profile and large-scale upcoming events are the Asian Games and the Asian Youth Para-Games, which will be held in Tashkent in 2025. Youth from 45 countries of our continent will compete in almost 20 disciplines.
It should be noted that such a prestigious international event is held for the first time in Uzbekistan’s history. To ensure high level of organization, a project for the construction of a modern Olympic village was developed. The head of our state got acquainted with this project several times and gave instructions on it. Taking into account these recommendations, the project was finalized together with the main designer - the Chinese company CAMC Engineering.
- I am sure that the Olympic village will become a symbol of the high creative potential of our people and the unprecedented achievements of Uzbek sports. This facility will be a modern complex with breakthrough architecture, energy efficient and incorporating the most advanced innovative solutions,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The cost of the project is over 289 million dollars. The area of the village will be 100 hectares. A track and field and football stadium for 10,000 seats, 6 indoor and 7 outdoor sports facilities, a water sports palace, a cycle track, martial arts and team sports complexes will be built here.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the foundation stone for the Olympic Village.
