Azerbaijani company AzerGold will carry out comprehensive geological exploration at the Akba gold deposit in Kashkadarya province, the company’s press service said.

AzerGold has formally registered a limited liability subsidiary, AzerGold Uzbekistan, to develop cooperation between the two countries in mining and geological exploration. In the first stage, the deposit’s mineral resources will be assessed and the feasibility of industrial-scale development studied.

The company is still obtaining the permits needed to begin work. Once the government issues the relevant license, an 18-month exploration program will start. It will include analysis of existing geological data, additional exploration, resource assessment under the international JORC code, metallurgical tests and studies of mining technologies and environmental impact.

A final feasibility study will follow, and an investment proposal based on the findings will be submitted to the relevant state bodies.

AzerGold also plans exploration in prospective areas between the cities of Navoi and Nurota through a joint venture. Work is under way to agree its founding documents and obtain state permits, and a two-year exploration and financing plan has been drawn up. If economically viable reserves are found, the parties will implement investment projects and develop the deposits jointly.

Background: The project’s legal basis is an agreement signed on June 17, 2026, between AzerGold and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology. The joint venture is provided for in a three-party agreement signed on July 17, 2026, by AzerGold, Uzbekgeologorazvedka and the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Company.
