Türkiye’s Cengiz Holding plans to commission a 550-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas power plant in Jizzakh Province by the end of 2026, the group’s chairman, Mehmet Cengiz, said at a meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on October 16.

The plant is the company’s third energy project in Uzbekistan, valued at about $800 million. Cengiz said the group’s total investment in the country has exceeded $900 million.

“After completing projects in Tashkent and Syrdarya provinces, we plan to launch the Jizzakh plant by the end of the year. As a result, the total installed capacity of the facilities we have built will reach 1,010 MW,” he said at an open dialogue with energy-sector investors.

The website of Cenergo, which presents the group’s energy projects in Uzbekistan, lists 480 MW of operating capacity and 1,030 MW including Jizzakh.

Cengiz said the company is considering a fourth project. “We intend to implement a fourth, and possibly a fifth, project here,” he said after a separate meeting with the head of state.

He also called for developing infrastructure for energy projects, including gas supply, power lines and distribution networks. Mirziyoyev suggested he submit proposals for taking part in building New Tashkent. The president’s press service said talks also covered new thermal power plants, modernizing distribution networks and cooperation in geology.

Two thermal plants built with Cengiz Holding’s participation are already operating in Tashkent and Syrdarya provinces, with combined capacity of 460 MW, according to previously published official data.

In November 2023, Mirziyoyev signed a resolution on building the Jizzakh plant, then valued at $500 million, with commissioning planned for 2025. It was expected to produce more than 4 billion kilowatt-hours a year and save at least 700 million cubic meters of gas.
