A total of 140 million seedlings are due to be planted nationwide this autumn under the Yashil Makon (Green Space) national project, with planting starting in stages from November 1 to November 20, Ismatulla Dustmurodov, adviser on information policy to the director of the Agency for Forest and Green Area Expansion and Combating Desertification, announced the plan at a press briefing.

Planting will begin on November 1 in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm province, followed by Bukhara and Navoi provinces on November 5. On November 10, it will start in Andijan, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Syrdarya, Namangan, Tashkent and Fergana provinces and Tashkent city. Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya provinces will begin on November 20.

Dustmurodov said the season will focus on choosing suitable seedlings and sites, timely watering and systematic care. He noted that autumn and winter moisture helps seedlings take root.

This autumn, 257 Green Gardens and Green Public Parks are to be established, and their number is planned to reach 1,023 by 2030. Since October 1, nearly 4,200 “forest mentors” have been assigned to 8,992 mahallas to assist residents and help compile seedling orders.

From January 1, 2027, a “Greening the Mahalla” package will be implemented, covering seedling delivery, pest and disease protection, organic fertilizer, mulch and water-saving irrigation equipment. A “Green Lot” system will also be launched, allocating land under contract to individuals and legal entities for green gardens. The plots will not become their property, and construction on them will be banned.

Micro-forests will be created in mahallas with limited land, among apartment blocks and in school and kindergarten yards, while community gardens will be set up on concrete or asphalt-covered areas.

The project will also implement the international “3-30-300” standard.
