Two people were killed on Korasuv-Buka-Bekabad highway in Tashkent province after a Chevrolet Spark veered into oncoming traffic and overturned on the roadside.
Footage circulating on social media shows the Spark attempting to overtake when a Chevrolet Cobalt cut it off, forcing the Spark into the oncoming lane, where it flipped. The Cobalt then left the scene.
Because the fleeing Cobalt's license plate was not visible in the footage, police had initially said the vehicle was being sought.
According to Tashkent Province Police Department, the crash occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on August 15. The same day, police identified and detained the Cobalt's driver, a 30-year-old man identified by the initials Kh.A.
Citing the Millar program, local media reported the victims were a 39-year-old man and his 5-year-old child. A woman involved in the crash was hospitalized.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 266, Part 3(a) of the Criminal Code - Violation of traffic safety rules resulting in death, with investigation underway.
