In a sweeping move to address systemic inefficiencies, the 44 chiefs of municipal and district electricity supply enterprises were dismissed on Thursday. The decision followed a high-level meeting at "Provincial Electric Networks," chaired by the Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the sackings hit provincial branches across the country, including 14 in Andijan, 10 in Samarkand, 7 in Jizzakh, 4 in Kashkadarya, and two each in Sirdaryo, Tashkent, and Fergana.

This overhaul comes in the wake of sharp criticism from president Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the April 24 government meeting. The president singled out these 44 enterprises for excessive energy losses exceeding 20% within their networks. He called for these leaders to be replaced by a new generation of younger talent, with the explicit goal of cutting current energy losses in half.

Additional directives were issued to upgrade high-voltage lines and prioritize the modernization and reconstruction of networks in critical districts. The Ministry also emphasized the fast-tracked implementation of Artificial Intelligence technologies to combat electricity loss more effectively.

The reshuffle extended to the gas sector as well, where the head of the "Hududgaz Khorezm" branch was dismissed following reports of serious regulatory violations.
