Margilan city criminal court sentenced Elyor Tojiboev, a reporter of the news publication named Anti-Corruption in Fergana province Tiesday, the provincial court press service said.

Elyor Tojiboev was found guilty of committing crimes under the following charges:

  • Slander for mercenary or other base motives;
  • Insult in connection with the performance of the victim's official or civic duty;
  • Extortion;
  • Resistance to a government official or a person performing a civic duty;
  • Taking possession, destruction, damage, or concealment of documents committed against a passport or identification card, military ID card, or other important personal document, or against documents, stamps, seals, or forms of particular importance);
  • Dissemination of false information.

Consumable sentences were used to sentence Tozhiboev to 3 years and 10 months' imprisonment. However, based on Imposition of sentences under multiple charge, the court revoked the release on parole for previous offenses and sentenced him to 4 years' imprisonment in a maximum security penal colony.

In November 2021, Tojiboev, then a correspondent for Effect.uz, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment under Resisting a government official or a person performing their civic duty and Interference with the investigation or resolution of court cases of the Criminal Code, to be served in a penal colony. The sentence was based on a video recording showing a conflict between Effect.uz staff and the chairman of the Termez district criminal court in his office.

According to Anti-Corruption (the publication was registered in 2022 by AK XALQPARVAR GURUHI), on the night of May 16, 2025, Elyor Tojiboev was taken from his home by law enforcement officers. The publication complained about the delays in the trial.
