The transport ministries of Uzbekistan and Indonesia held talks in Jakarta to develop bilateral cooperation in civil aviation, the Uzbek Transport Ministry said.

The parties agreed to lift restrictions on the number of airlines and destinations set out in the air traffic agreement, with immediate implementation of changes withing the powers of the aviation authorities.

They also vowed to add additional destinations in Indonesia in Uzbekistan's route network - Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan, Yogyakarta, Majalengka, Banda Aceh, Tanjung Pandang, Lombok and any two cities in addition to Jakarta.

In addition, Indonesian airlines shall get permits to fly to all international airports in Uzbekistan.

The parties reached an agreement to increase the frequency of flights from 3 to 28 per week for each of the parties (14 passenger and 14 cargo), with the restrictions on the capacity and types of aircraft to be lifted.

For cargo air transportation, the countries will mutually grant the third (the right to fly from one country to another), fourth (the right to fly from another country to one) and fifth freedoms of the air (the right to fly between two foreign countries during a flight that begins or ends in one's own country).

Furthermore, 50% of flights on the Denpasar route are allowed to be carried out in the format of joint operation (code sharing).

The countries agreed to expand the volume of transportation and the number of designated air carriers by exchanging letters.

Following the meeting, the 1995 agreement between Uzbekistan Airways and the Indonesian Aviation Authority has been found null and void, with the terms of the new agreement to take effect.

In June, Uzbekistan airlines conducted first direct charter flights to the Indonesian island of Bali.
