The government has brought forward strict conditions to the investor of the Sea Breeze Uzbekistan project on Charvak, the adviser to the Minister of Environmental Protection Rasul Kusherbayev stated.
According to him, a government resolution is expected to be issued on the Sea Breeze project, which has become one of the most discussed in recent months.
Considering the public's objections to the construction of a resort near the Charvak reservoir, the company has been handed a number of conditions and obligations.
"One of the conditions was the complete prevention of water release into Charvak and the Chirchik River. The investor for this project is obliged to create a modern water purification and reuse system, and he shall bear all the costs," Kusherbayev said on his channel.
"The project strictly states that if the rules are violated and even one drop of water gets into Charvak, construction will be stopped, the investment contract will be canceled, and the land will be seized," he said.
The Minister's Advisor also reported that the Prosecutor General's Office would oversee the compliance with all urban development and environmental requirements on the territory of the resort.
"The Cabinet of Ministers and the Prosecutor General's Office will be in charge of the transparency and legality of the entire process - from project development to commissioning of the facilities," he added.
In December last year, Azerbaijani businessman Emin Agalarov presented the project for the construction of the all-season resort Sea Breeze Uzbekistan to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It was noted that the center on an area of 500-700 hectares will include recreation areas, beaches, sports grounds, hotels, cottages and residential complexes, as well as shops, restaurants, schools, a water park, and recreation parks.
The Sea Breeze Uzbekistan project has sparked discussions in society. Activists and environmentalists are concerned about the potential impact of the resort complex on the ecological system of the Charvak reservoir, which is the main source of drinking water for Tashkent, possible restrictions on access to water, increased load on infrastructure and lack of transparency.
The Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov previously stated that the Sea Breeze Uzbekistan project has not yet been approved, and the ministry has not received any official documents on it. According to him, if the project is submitted in the established manner, it will be submitted for broad public discussion, and until all examinations are completed, construction in this zone is impossible.
