A flock of sheep died after falling into a ravine in Saryosiyo district of Surkhandarya province, the chief of the district veterinary and livestock development department, Shamsher Umedov said.
According to Shamsher Umedov, the incident occurred on May 25.
“Such cases occurred. Sheep are such species that if one of them throws itself off a cliff, the others will follow it. The number of sheep that died is over 300. Our officers, officials of the department went and counted them. None of the sheep had any diseases whatsoever,” he added.
The sheep that fell to the ravine were treated twice with a special drug on the spot, because it was impossible to remove them from the ravine, burn them, or bury them.
“The area is far from residential areas. Therefore, the sheep were treated and disinfected right in here. Because they could not be taken out of the ravine. The medicine will rot and destroy the dead sheep in 1 month, and no disease or infection will spread,” says Shamsher Umedov.
A report on the incident surfaced on social networks said that the preventive inspector, a social worker and seven members of the neighbourhood did not allow the sheep to pass through the village road, which is why the shepherd had to take them through the ravine. Shamsher Umedov said that he was not aware of this, and that the relevant authorities were investigating the situation.
