President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Catherine Russell, who is visiting the country Tuesday, the presidential press service said.
The parties reportedly discussed the ways to expand the bilateral cooperation and commended the level of interaction between Uzbekistan and UNICEF in recent years.
Law on the protection of children from violence, strategic documents in the field of social protection of the public and the fight against childhood oncology were adopted in Uzbekistan With the support of the fund. Also, the fund provided assistance in countering the coronavirus pandemic and developing the vaccination system.
The parties emphasized the importance of working together to improve laws, in adopting new mechanisms for the care and support of children, and expand social insurance. In addition, issues of improving the quality and accessibility of social services, developing national standards in this area and developing inclusive education were discussed.
An agreement was reached on the adoption of a new UNICEF country program until 2030, as well as jointly holding a number of international events on protecting the rights and promoting the interests of children.
These days in Tashkent is hosting a high-level forum “Dialogue for Children: Central Asia and UNICEF”, timed to coincide with the world Children's Day.
