Three people died from gas poisoning in a pit in the Saykhunabad district of the Syrdarya province, the spokesman to the attorney General's Office Khayot Shamsutdinov said on Monday.
The incident occurred on May 22. A 67-year-old man living in the Dustlik neighborhood of the district fell into a 5-meter pit that stores sewer in his house in order to clean it. However, he died from inhaling toxic gas that formed in the pit.
Then his 39-year-old son and 46-year-old neighbor, who went into the well to save him, also died from gas poisoning. Two more people who went down to save them also suffered from inhaling toxic gas and lost consciousness.
Due to the assistance provided by the Saikhunabad district Emergency department, the bodies of the father, son and neighbor, as well as two men who lost consciousness from the toxic gas, were taken out of the well. Thanks to the medical assistance provided, the lives of the two men were saved and they were placed in the district medical unit.
The Saikhunabad district attorney's office launched a probe into the incident.
