MPs of the Legislative Chamber passed bill on the approval of the Concept of Ensuring Freedom of Conscience of Individuals and National Policies in the Sphere of Religion, initiated by a group of MPs, at a meeting on Tuesday, the press service of the chamber said.

The Bill was passed in the first reading on January 31 and was posted for public input, which lasted until February 10. The Bill is reportedly aimed at "ensuring a stable environment in which the multi-confessional and multi-ethnic society of Uzbekistan can develop on the basis of democracy, secularism, freedom, equality, social justice and unity."

More than 480 comments were received during the discussion. On February 6, the Legislative Chamber chaired a meeting to discuss the draft Concept with representatives of 16 religious denominations operating in the country.

Representatives of all faiths supported the draft Concept, noting that its adoption will serve to ensure harmony between religions and confessions in the country, further strengthening peace and stability.

Analysis of comments, proposals and recommendations found that the majority of our fellow countrymen the Concept, the Legislative Chamber noted. Having studied the comments, the MPs made changes and addenda to more than 10 items of the Concept.

The Bill was sent to the Senate for approval.
