Heating and hot water tariffs in Uzbekistan may be raised twice in 2025. announced Ilkhom Turaev, chief of the Department for Operation and Development of Heat Supply Systems of the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services at a press conference on December 2.
This year, heating and hot water tariffs were raised once in the provinces and twice in Tashkent city (in April and November). According to him, starting next year, they may be indexed twice in the provinces due to the increase in prices for electricity and natural gas.
“There is a huge share of state subsidies in heat supply. In this regard, we need to revise prices in order to update the system and create good conditions, and this requires funds,” Ilkhom Turaev said.
He added that it was necessary to review the payment system. To do this, the experience of South Korea and neighboring countries was studied.
For example, in the Republic of Korea, a subscription fee is charged for maintaining minimal heating of houses, despite the fact that people live in them.
"Many people have a question: if I do not live at home, do I need to pay for heating? In Korea, a system has been built that is similar to subscription payments on your phone. A subscription fee is charged to maintain minimal heat in the house... If we pursue the right tariff policy, it will become clear whether it is necessary to increase tariffs or not," he noted.
Veolia Energy Tashkent previously justified the increase in tariffs for hot water and heating by increasing prices for gas and electricity. According to the company, today the population covers 18% of the price from the base tariff.
