Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan signed a Trilateral Framework Agreement on the development of a feasibility study for the Trans-Afghan Railway project in Kabul on Thursday.

The document was signed by the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, the Minister of Public Works of Afghanistan and the Minister of Railways of Pakistan in the presence of the foreign ministers of the three countries.

“The first trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan marks a historic step forward in deepening mutual trust, good-neighborliness and regional cooperation,” wrote the head of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, Bakhtiyor Saidov, on his Telegram channel.

The Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trans-Afghan Railway project is of strategic importance for the whole of Eurasia. This corridor will improve trade, support the economic recovery of Afghanistan and open new routes to world markets through southern ports,” the minister emphasized.

At the meeting, Uzbekistan “reiterated its commitment to strengthening trade ties, expanding cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles and construction, as well as increasing the capacity of the Termez International Trade Center,” the minister concluded.
