Inauguration ceremony of the first honorary consulate of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan took place in Ganja, one of Azerbaijan’s oldest cities, Dunyo news agency said.
Kanan Jalilov was appointed the first honorary consul of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan.
The honorary consulate will help protect the rights and interests of Uzbek nationals, develop economic cooperation, draw investment and tourists to Uzbekistan, as well as develop cultural and humanitarian ties, the statement said.
The event was attended by the city mayor, Niyazi Bayramov, heads of the Turkish and Georgian consulates in Ganja, business leaders, science, the city’s public and the media representatives.
After the ceremony, an outdoor reception was organized for fellow countrymen in the city.
