An Uzbek woman who married into a family in Türkiye has been accused of stealing gold jewelry gifted by the groom's side and fleeing after the wedding. Uzbekistan's Consulate General in Istanbul said the woman did not flee and remains in Türkiye.

According to the consulate, the woman, 28-year-old M.B., married into a family in the Milas district of Muğla province.

The consulate noted that she had not disappeared and had voluntarily gone to a local police station to give a statement on the matter.

The woman denied the allegations against her, saying she and her mother had handed the gold jewelry worn at the wedding over to her father-in-law. According to messages she cited, her father-in-law later sold the jewelry to pay off loans and other debts.

She has submitted this evidence to Turkish law enforcement.

An investigation into the case is currently underway.
