Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov met with the chief of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov on October 18 at a conference in Dushanbe on cooperation to combat terrorism, the Foreign Ministry reported.

They discussed the ways to advance cooperation to ensure peace and security in Central Asia, including within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.

The parties noted that the international conference on the implementation of this strategy in Central Asia, held in Tashkent on March 3-4, made it possible to agree on general principles and approaches to combating terrorism "taking into account the changing international socio-political and socio-economic environment in the region." At this conference, a joint action plan was adopted to implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in a new edition, as well as the "Tashkent Declaration", which confirmed the commitment of the Central Asian states to cooperate within the framework of the new action plan.

Following the meeting Norov and Voronkov signed a Roadmap, which includes initiatives and proposals put forward during the Tashkent conference and defines priority areas for bilateral cooperation.

The Roadmap involves the creation of a virtual network to counter cyberterrorism in Central Asia, the exchange of experience on the effective use of local communities (mahallas) in the rehabilitation and reintegration of repatriates, the creation of a regional expert council on this issue under the auspices of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office and other activities.

To promote the ideas and principles of tolerance, inter-religious and intercultural dialogue with the participation of all sectors of society, in 2023 Uzbekistan is planning to hold a high-level conference "Enlightenment and Religious Tolerance" under the auspices of the UN.
