The National Statistics Agency, operating under the President, has released its latest demographic report, revealing a 7.92% contraction in nationwide birth rates for the first half of 2026.
According to the agency's official data, a total of 373,389 live births were registered across the country between January and June. This figure marks a significant drop of 32,111 births compared to the 405.5 thousand live births recorded during the exact same six-month period of 2025, signaling a notable cooling in the country's rapid demographic trajectory.
A provincial breakdown of the 2026 data shows that Samarkand province continues to drive the nation's population growth, leading the country with 46,436 registered births. Fergana province followed closely in second place with 41,773 births, while Kashkadarya province secured the third-highest spot with 41,261. Significant demographic activity was also observed across other major southern and eastern regions, including Surkhandarya with 35,461 births, Andijan with 32,949, and Namangan with 31,441.
Meanwhile, Tashkent Province registered 29,024 live births, slightly outpacing the urban capital of Tashkent city, which recorded 27,446.
Among the remaining administrative zones, Bukhara Province registered 17,535 live births, followed by Khorezm with 17,112, Jizzakh with 16,949, and Karakalpakstan with 15,894. The lowest birth metrics during this six-month window were observed in Navoiy province with 10,724 births and Syrdarya province with 9,384.
