By decree of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Russian President Vladimir Putin was awarded the Friendship Order of the Highest Degree, announced the President’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov.

The award was given "for a huge personal contribution to the development of traditional bonds of friendship and cooperation between the peoples of our countries, as well as in connection with the 70th anniversary" of Vladimir Putin (October 7).

The Highest Degree Friendship Order was established in 2020 and is the highest state award of Uzbekistan for foreign citizens and stateless persons. It can be awarded to heads of state and government (including the President of Uzbekistan), representatives of parliaments of other countries and international organizations, prominent figures in various fields, including citizens of Uzbekistan.

The first foreign leader to be awarded the Order was the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. He received the award in September during the state visit to Uzbekistan.
