Licenses were issued to 8 private universities year-to-date in 2022. This was announced by the head of the State Inspectorate for Supervision of the Quality of Education Ulugbek Toshkenboev.

Reportedly, one of the tasks of the 41st goal of Uzbekistan’s New Development Strategy for 2022-2026 is to increase the share of private universities up to 8% in 2026, including up to 3% in 2022, by expanding facilities and opportunities for them.

The 49th goal set the task of increasing the number of non-governmental organizations of higher education to at least 50 by 2026, in particular, in 2022, to create at least 1 non-governmental organization of higher education in Navoi, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya provinces and the city of Tashkent.

In particular, private universities wer opened in Kashkadarya, Bukhara, Namangan, Samarkand provinces, where there was not a single private university.

It is reported that at present, in cooperation with local governments, the necessary work is being carried out in Surkhandarya, Syrdarya provinces and Karakalpakstan, where there is not a single university.

To date, the number of licensed private universities has reached 42.
