President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on measures being taken to achieve the goals he has set for Uzbekistan's energy sector.
In the meeting were present the recently appointed Energy minister Sherzod Khodjaev, presidential adviser on oil, gas and energy Behzod Normatov, and other officials.
On July 27, the head of state chaired a video conference meeting on priority issues in the fuel and energy sector, during which management of the industry, the stability of power and gas supplies at the local level, and efforts to reduce accidents and energy losses were critically reviewed.
That meeting set out tasks for organizing electricity and gas supply work on a district-by-district and neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis, forming an energy consumption balance for each region, conducting inventories of networks and equipment, thoroughly preparing for the autumn-winter season, and broadly introducing digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
The latest presentation reviewed the work being carried out — and future plans — by the new leadership of the Ministry of Energy, the Territorial Power Grids joint-stock company and Uzenergoinspectorate to arrange for the execution of these directives.
A special task force is currently operating in the Yangiyul district to improve electricity and gas supply. It holds open dialogues with businesses and residents, directly examining complaints related to outages, capacity shortages, drops in gas pressure, obtaining technical specifications, and outstanding debts.
Based on the Yangiyul district's experience, a model system using this approach is planned for 13 other districts, with a view to later rolling it out more broadly.
Officials said measures are being strengthened to ensure the legality and transparency of the process for issuing technical specifications that connect businesses to electricity and gas networks, and to prevent corruption in these procedures.
As part of preparations for the autumn-winter season, work is underway to upgrade problematic networks and equipment, reduce energy losses, implement energy-efficiency measures, and eliminate the causes of emergency outages.
Mechanisms are also being developed to assign tasks to sector employees through an electronic system, monitor their execution, and evaluate performance based on clear indicators.
The Ministry of Energy has been tasked with building a unified and effective management system for the sector, coordinating the work of industry enterprises, ensuring investment projects are carried out on schedule, and systematically organizing preparations for the autumn-winter season.
Territorial Power Grids has been directed to improve the stability of local electricity supply, gradually modernize infrastructure, reduce emergency outages, and improve service quality.
Uzenergoinspection has been tasked with strengthening oversight of the rational use of energy resources, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, cutting losses, and accelerating energy audits of major consumers.
Particular attention was also given to preparing neighborhoods with limited access to natural gas for the season ahead, broadly involving the private sector in supplying liquefied gas, and using artificial intelligence to monitor processes in the sector.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave directives to officials to implement all steps based on targeted, precise calculations, and to ensure a stable supply of electricity and gas to the population and to the various branches of the economy.
