On Monday, a Georgian government delegation headed by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili arrived in Tashkent on an official visit. At the airport, he was welcomed by the Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Jamshid Khodjaev and other officials, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade said.
The press service of the Georgian government said that Irakli Garibashvili would hold a series of negotiations with high-ranking officials.
Immediately upon arrival, the head of the Georgian government visited the New Uzbekistan park, where he laid flowers at the Independence Monument. Then he got acquainted with the "Technopark" at the site of the former TAPOiCH aviation plant, where 17 production facilities are located today.
There is a free trade regime between Uzbekistan and Georgia. Uzbekistan supplies Georgia mainly with industrial goods, chemical products, beverages, cars and transport equipment. Georgia supplies pharmaceutical products, transport equipment, food items and other items from Uzbekistan. On the territory of Uzbekistan there are 69 Georgian-invested enterprises, while 23 enterprises in Georgia with Uzbek investments.
Trade between the countries has grown by 34.3% since 2017, reaching $127.4 million. The parties consider this figure to be inconsistent with the potential and intend to significantly increase it.
The MIFT report says that the Prime Minister of Georgia drew attention to the huge investment and industrial potential of Uzbekistan.
